Job Summary: **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** is a non-profit law firm dedicated to securing justice for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. LACLJ is seeking a committed and passionate Immigration Staff Attorney to join their team and provide legal representation to low-income survivors in various immigration matters.
Responsibilities: - Represent low-income survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking in immigration matters, with a focus on VAWA and U and T Visa petitions. - Attend interviews before USCIS, assist in removal defense hearings at EOIR (Immigration Court), and assist with ICE check-ins, as needed. - Provide holistic legal services to clients, including criminal justice advocacy, public benefits, and other related areas of practice. - Conduct presentations and trainings for community partners and client communities on immigration and other legal remedies for immigrant survivors. - Collaborate with public and private community partners to address systemic barriers facing LACLJ's client community. - Engage in other tasks and projects to further LACLJ's mission and operations.
Qualifications: - J.D. degree from an accredited law school. - Licensed attorney, barred in California preferred. - Strong written and oral communication skills. - Fluency in Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking). - Commitment to trauma-informed advocacy, cultural responsiveness, and empathy for survivors. - Previous experience working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or human trafficking. - Previous experience working with immigrant or other vulnerable populations. - Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income people.
Working Conditions: - Work can be performed remotely and/or in an office setting. - Requires concentration on tasks while facing distractions. - Attendance at meetings, both remote and in person, in and outside the LACLJ office. - Use of office machines such as computers, photocopiers, and telephones. - Ability to work and travel between the LACLJ main office in East Los Angeles, court, and USCIS offices.
